Members, History, and Mission

In 1982, the AMPTP was formed to act as the entertainment industry’s official collective bargaining representative. By combining multiple associations that previously negotiated separately with the entertainment industry’s unions and guilds, the AMPTP is unified in delivering compensation and protections for workers more consistently and efficiently across a shared workforce.

The AMPTP has a long history of partnering with unions and guilds, concluding hundreds of agreements with groups representing workers across the entertainment industry. The AMPTP now negotiates on behalf of 300 production entities committed to reaching agreements that recognize the value of hundreds of thousands of union and guild members, ensuring the entertainment industry can continue to grow and thrive.

What We Do

Reaching fair deals with all the AMPTP’s union and guild partners is more important than ever – not only for the industry’s future but also for the talented people who make production possible. The AMPTP engages in consistent and open two-way dialogue by addressing unions’ and guilds’ priorities and representing member companies’ perspectives.

Industry Stability and Job Opportunities

The AMPTP is committed to working with the unions and guilds to reach agreements that ensure the industry continues to provide well-paid jobs, support robust production opportunities and create stable conditions for developing and producing motion pictures and programs that entertain audiences around the world. The AMPTP understands the importance of stability and opportunity for those who work in entertainment and is working with its union and guild partners towards those goals.

Safety and Well-being

Ensuring the safety and well-being of the workforce across our industry is critical. With our union and guild partners, we work together to identify areas of the various contracts we negotiate to deliver extensive, essential safety training and protections around rest periods, transportation, lodging, meals, and other working conditions.

Health Care and Pensions

The AMPTP has long focused on the industry’s health and pension plans to be able to provide quality benefits for participants now and in future years. For employees working in the motion picture and television industry, this includes access to some of the most robust, comprehensive and affordable health plans in the country.

Residuals

Since the mid-20th century, AMPTP-Guild agreements have provided payments, called residuals, for reuse of motion pictures in additional distribution platforms such as cable, syndication, DVDs, streaming platforms and other media. As technological advancements have continued to reshape consumer behavior, the AMPTP has partnered with unions and guilds to establish innovative models that extend residuals to capture new means of distribution. This compensation structure helps ensure talented individuals are rewarded for their efforts in ways that reflect the evolution of entertainment. The AMPTP is committed to keeping pace with technological advancements and changes in content distribution patterns to ensure that the talented individuals involved in creating these projects are adequately compensated for their continued use.

Artificial Intelligence

The AMPTP is committed to addressing concerns over the impact of artificial intelligence on the entertainment industry. Among other things, the contracts negotiated by the AMPTP foster ongoing dialogue with our union and guild partners, call for the development of industry training programs, and provide extensive creative protections while enabling the workforce to take advantage of the introduction of new technologies.
